Dr. Sikdar, popularly known as 'Deb', hails from a small town in the hilly state of Tripura in the remote northeastern part of India. After finishing his schooling there as the topper and the third-topper of the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) exams in the Secondary and the Higher Secondary levels, respectively, he moved to the desert land of 'Rajasthan' in the north-western part of India for undergraduate studies. He attended the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, a premier Indian university, where he completed a dual degree programme of M.Sc. (Physics) and B.E. (Electronics and Instrumentation). After graduation, he joined General Electric in Hyderabad and worked there as a control engineer for 18 months. Then to fulfill his desire to undertake higher studies he returned to BITS Pilani and completed an M.E. (Communication Engineering). In 2012 he won the prestigious 'Victoria India Doctoral Scholarship' awarded to him by the Former Premier of Victoria, Australia, Mr. Ted Baillieu for pursuing doctoral research in the emerging field of plasmonics nanosystems. He joined Monash University's Clayton Campus in Australia in June 2012. He submitted his doctoral thesis in October 2015, and moved to Imperial College London where he worked as a postdoctoral research associate in an EPSRC sponsored project on advanced nanoplasmonic metadevices at for the next 18 months. Currently he is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati.
