A light driven plasmonic nano-switch is developed based on a sub-wavelength multi-layered gold–dielectric–gold nanosphere antenna. This nanoantenna with tuned physical dimensions can feature exciting ultrasharp scattering–switching signatures - 'ON' and 'OFF' states of resonant and low scattering - based on high spectral proximity of the scattering resonance and cloaking states. These fast nano-switches have many applications in the nanophotonic and high-speed optical communication systems of the future.
